In common opinion, Twitter should have developed and marketed this application and this would have eased out the searching of users on Twitter. Twellow is similar to a Yellow pages directory but is exclusive for the public Twitter accounts, with hundreds of categories and search features to help you find the people you want. Registration is free here and will allow you to update your Twellow profile and categories, add links to your other social media profiles, create an extended bio with whatever information and links you would like to add, and easily follow other Twitter users right from Twellow.

Launched by the same team that was behind the tech news site WebProNews, Twellow has indexed more than 300,000 users and sorted them into categories like programming, marketing, graphic design, and dozens of others to help you find users who list those characteristics in their Twitter biographies. There are also sub-categories within categories, making your searches specific and rendering exact results you wish to see. Twellow is a great new search tool and directory for discovering Twitter users. It is currently grabbing publicly available messages from the Twitter.com micro-blogging service. They then analyze and categorize each of the users responsible for those messages into the various categories found at Twellow.com.

RSS feeds are also offered for each category and sub-category. Apart from directory browsing, you can also enter in specific search terms to find people listing certain interests. By default, search results are sorted by number of followers, but you can also filter them by most recent activity. You can further drill down by searching within a specific category by entering keywords as well.

Normally a Twitter user mostly sticks to adding friends and interesting people he comes across on the internet or simply re-following those that follow him. Whereas Twellow allows you to be proactive about finding new and interesting people to follow, and does a great job of presenting the results and has a social networking front-end. Users would swear on the fact that Twellow provides a much improved method of finding people compared to Twitter’s own ‘Finding People’, hence worth a try.
