When I heard mention of it while watching cable news, I almost didn’t catch it because it was a very brief and shocking announcement, and they were in the middle of Michael Jackson news. Billy Mays found dead in his home. Dead at 50 years old…
Why is this so sad? Well, for many reasons but overall, he was a GREAT guy! Only recently had the public come to know Billy Mays (through his new hit show on Discovery called “Pitchmen”). He wasn’t stuck up, he hadn’t let his new celebrity status get to his head, and from what I could tell, he was very polite to anyone he came in contact with. The guy was on top of his game, and could sell sand to a desert nomad. As a former salesman myself, I can truly appreciate the unbelievable skill and sales prowess that Billy possessed. No one could top him, and no one ever will.
Who could forget the products that Billy has pushed over the years? A couple of his most successful products are household names now, and probably will be for a long, long time. Oxi-Clean, anyone?

Heck, a few of them actually bring back memories! Little did we know back then that Billy Mays would become a welcome and highly trusted friend on our TV screens.
